Mr. Rogers

Framed by a sand arch, 15-year-old Tyle Rogers of San Francisco tries his skills at skim boarding on Kailua Beach. What I'm noticing is what a small world it is on certain parts of the island: Tyle's sister, Tanya, made the turtle sand sculpture shown on my blog of 7/31. Tyle and Tanya's father Tracy (notice the theme of names that start with T) saw the blog and emailed me that both of his children took a sand sculpting class on Maui a few years ago and they've been making beautiful art in the sand ever since. I just happened to photograph both pieces on two different days at two different locations.

Fast Crowd

"Mama told me not to come" when hanging around the fast crowd. The parking attendant gently suggested that I park my Chevy some distance away from the Ferraris cued up for a rally out of the St. Francis Yacht Club. Beach Poetry

Seaweed, foam, pebble, plume artfully melded beauty where earthy treasure-trove. Taken at daybreak on a small beach at Fort Baker just under the Golden Gate Bridge on a very overcast foggy summer morning in San Francisco.

Happy Hour

The magic hour at sunrise can transform a scratched up warehouse window into a work of art. The Presidio is slowly evolving into classy playground - as it should - though many romantic artists worry that the past will be lost to the future. In general, photographers are old warehouse freaks. If they get a change to visit a junkyard during twilight, they call it "happy hour."
